APPLIED OPTICS RESEARCH GROUP (AORG) CONSISTS A NUMBER OF RESEARCHERS FROM PHYSICS DEPARTMENT, FACULTY OF SCIENCE, UTM. RESEARCH FOCUS WITHIN AORG IS INCLUDING LASER INTERACTION AND FIBRE LASER SYSTEM, OPTICAL SENSORS AND IMAGING, OPTOELECTRONIC DEVICES, SPECTROSCOPY AND PLASMA TECHNOLOGY & DIAGNOSTICS. CURRENT RESEARCH ACTIVITIES INCLUDE LASER INDUCED BREAKDOWN SPECTROSCOPY FOR MINERAL ANALYSIS IN HONEY & ORGANIC SAMPLES, VARIOUS OPTICAL FIBRE BASED SENSORS FOR TEMPERATURE, STRAIN & GAS DETECTION, TERAHERTZ IMAGING FOR HONEY PURITY DETERMINATION COUPLED WITH ANALYSIS MULTIVARIATE ANALYSIS, FIBRE LASER TUNING USING A NOVEL TECHNIQUE, NON-THERMAL PLASMA APPLICATIONS FOR INDUSTRIAL PROCESS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL AND DEVELOPMENT OF LASER SYSTEM. THERE ARE MORE THAN TWENTY POSTGRADUATE STUDENTS CURRENTLY UNDERTAKING RESEARCH PROJECTS AT MASTER OR PHD LEVEL.
